At first glance, this canvas could have been painted around 1870. The cloudscape, the wall with climbing plants, the water and general hues used are reminiscent of Martí Alsina, the founder of the school of Catalan landscape artists. However, a closer look shows that the artist is using Informalist language. The brushstrokes seem dabbed, particularly in the central colour block, creating relief in the boundaries between colour, while the touches of white on the dark background give a great sense of movement to the water. The contrasting cloudscape is voluptuous thanks to the lush colours, in shades of pink and ochre on the white wash, which is left occasionally exposed. Despite its apparent simplicity, the work is of great spatial complexity and has great poetic content, which suggests a return to the symbolist styles on which Perejaume was to turn his back on in his later career, even though he would continue to be interested in the natural environment and a certain pantheism of the landscape.
