LA VIDRIERA DEL PATIO DE OPERACIONES DEL BANCO DE ESPAÑA
The head offices of the Banco de España contain one of the most important sets of symbolist and art deco stained glass in Europe. The windows were made by two of the most important stained-glass makers of the time, the firms of Mayer of Munich and Maumejean of Madrid, whose designs for the building introduced some significant innovations in the field. This book was published to mark the restoration work carried out on the great stained-glass window covering the Trading Hall. It takes an in-depth look at this valuable and little-known item of historical and artistic interest, which reflects the Banco de España abiding interest in this particular form of decorative art.
The foreword is by Luis María Linde de Castro, Governor of the Banco de España from 2012 to 2018. The book includes essays by Victor Nieto Alcaide (author of Las vidrieras de la ampliación [1933-1934]. Progreso y arte déco) and Valentín Berriochoa Sánchez Moreno (El Patio de Operaciones del edificio tradicional del Banco de España), together with a report on the restoration work. There is also a wide selection of photographs and illustrations, and the book is available in Spanish (20 MB) and English (20 MB).
