Javier Portús has a PhD in History of Art and is the Head of Conservation of Spanish Painting at the Prado. His books include Pintura y pensamiento en la España de Lope de Vega (1999), El concepto de pintura española (2012) and Velázquez. Su tiempo y el nuestro (2018). He curated the Velázquez’s Fables (2007) and Meta-painting. A Journey to the Idea of Art (2016) exhibitions.
