THE TYRANNY OF CHRONOS. Brochure
Exhibition brochure of The Tyranny of Chronos exhibition (27 November 2024 – 29 March 2025).
Through a selection of more than fifty works by twenty-four artists and collectives, including tapestries, paintings, sculptures, photographs and clocks, this exhibition offers a new perspective on the notion of time and the different ways it has been conceived and represented throughout history. Although the show draws predominantly on the bank's own collection, some pieces have been especially loaned for the event by other Spanish and foreign institutions
The exhibition was also the venue for the official unveiling of Annie Leibovitz's portraits of the King and Queen of Spain and the outgoing governor, Pablo Hernández de Cos. The two new works are the first photographs in the bank's portrait gallery.
Leibovitz's pictures are included the first of the three sections, Portraits in the Course of Time. The other two – I Don't Have Time and Unclocked Time – include items from the bank's contemporary collection (including some recent acquisitions). They reflect the way the collection has embraced new artistic languages and its move towards a greater international presence in recent years.
