COLECCIÓN BANCO DE ESPAÑA. Catálogo Razonado. Vol 1
This catalogue raisonné was published in 2019, to amend and expand on the catalogue of paintings published in 1985, which contained three hundred and twenty-two items. This new edition extends the scope of study to sculptures, drawings and photography. In the future, it is planned to further extend the work to cover the decorative arts and the bank's large print collection. The final result is a three-volume set with reproductions of over 1,400 works by nearly 500 artists, reflecting the growth of the Bank's collection since the mid-1980s. The essential aim of this highly comprehensive study is to contribute to the dissemination, research, enjoyment and knowledge of this public collection by the general public, specialists and art lovers alike.
Volume I includes 263 works of art produced between the fifteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. It includes an introductory essay by Yolanda Romero, current curator at the Banco de España, and contributions by Javier Portús, Chief Curator of Spanish Painting at the Prado Museum and art historian Isabel Tejeda. All the texts are also available in English translation. The publication documents all the catalogued pieces, with critical commentaries by twenty-two different specialists, as well as biographical sketches of the artists featured.
