The Smoker is a small drawing from 1975. Its composition is very simple: a large wall provides a minimal backdrop for a man on the left and what actually seems like an abstract painting produced using doodles, where the space of the work is generated by overlapping planes. It should not be forgotten that Pérez Villalta studied Architecture in Madrid and geometry is the basis of the defining composition of his pieces. This small drawing on paper was the forerunner of the works that he went on to produce in the following decade, moving away from the paintings with a strong psychedelic vibe that he produced in the 1970s.
