Antonio Lorenzo's fully abstract works from the 1960s still contain hints of the gloomy, 'costumbrist' style that marked the early years of his career, influenced by the works of artists such as Regoyos, Solana and Zuloaga. The sharp chiaroscuro effect in his compositions reflects the atmosphere of the most run-down areas of rural Spain through the use of dense, heavy brush-strokes.
