Pierre Patel studied under Simon Vouet. His landscapes with architecture, inspired by the countryside around Rome, have the same classical spirit as those of Claude de Lorrain. He worked with Charles Le Brun and other artists on the decoration of the Hotel Lambert in Paris and with his son Pierre Antoine (The Younger)on the apartment of Anna of Austria, currently in the Louvre.
