Chavajay is a multidisciplinary artist working in painting, drawing, sculpture, video and installation, addressing a decolonial critique and a vindication and construction of contemporary Maya culture. Between 2001 and 2009 he carried out environmental projects and interpretive trails around the Lake Atitlán watershed. He is currently a promoter of contemporary art in the Mayan villages with Canal Cultural, a collective of artists in San Pedro La Laguna. He is a graduate of the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, Rafael Rodríguez Padilla, 2010. He studied art history at the Institute for Training and Development, Amherst, MA, 2009. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Guatemala, Mexico, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, China, Ecuador, United States, Scotland, Glasgow, Nicaragua, Brazil, Prague, Czech Republic and in several Biennials among which are: SIART Bolivia Biennial, Biennial CURITIVA BRAZIL, The Seventh Biennial of Visual Arts of the Central American Isthmus BAVIC, 2010; XVIII Paiz Art Biennial, 2012, XIX Paiz Art Biennial, 2014; XXI Paiz Art Biennial, 2018; XXII Paiz Biennial, 2021 and XXIII Paiz Biennial, 2023.
