Francisco Belda y Pérez de Nueros, Third Marquis of Cabra, joined the Banco de España at an early age. He worked first as a legal advisor and later as Secretary General before becoming Deputy Governor, a post which he held from 1912 to 1930. He was an amateur painter, sculptor and art historian.

His friends included artists and art historians, and he was a member of the Sociedad Española de Excursiones ['Spanish Society of Excursions'], whose journal for 1888-1889, edited by Vicente Lampérez y Romea, features a brief historical essay by him on the so-called 'Bishop's Chapel' at the Church of San Andrés in Madrid.
