Dora García (b. Valladolid, 1965) is an artist, lecturer and researcher. She divides her time between Barcelona and Oslo, where she teaches at the National Academy of the Arts. In her art, she employs new media, particularly performance and audiovisual art.

She works primarily in the fields of performance, text production (in a variety of formats) and experimental documentary. She often addresses the relationship between community and individuality in contemporary society, examining marginalised perspectives and paying tribute to eccentric characters and anti-heroes. These marginal figures form the protagonists of projects such as The Deviant Majority (2010), The Joycean Society (2013) and Segunda Vez (Second Time) – an open-ended exploration of many of her earlier works, exhibited at the Reina Sofía Museum in 2018.

García creates interactive situations that invite the viewer to reflect on ethically controversial issues and the institutional nature of the art world.

She constantly invites viewers to the audience to participate and question, using photography, installation, drawing, video, sound and the web to explore the boundaries between reality and fiction. Her work has featured in numerous international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, the Istanbul Biennial and Documenta in Kassel. García has received several awards and accolades, including Spain’s National Prize for the Visual Arts (2021). Her art has been exhibited at major museums and art centres, including the Reina Sofía Museum, the Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco and the Fundación Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona.
